Bismarck Munich Helles
When I first got started brewing my own beer, I was given some ingredients by my uncle, which I brewed before this one. He also showed me what to do, and I considered that to be my "training" brew, so I'll consider this one to be my first "actual" brew. Since I started this blog several months after brewing my "first" batch, I'm post-dating this article back to actuall brew date.

I purchased an ingredient kit from Homebrew Adventures. Their description states "Bismarck Munich Helles is named after the great German battleship because of how easily it goes down." I'll agree that it goes down very easily, and the five gallon batch didn't last long.

Though they describe it as golden in color, I found that was actually a little darker than golden. Perhaps my perception of golden is different than theirs. I also didn't get the same starting gravity that they listed on the directions. My starting gravity came in at 1.036, while they listed the range of 1.044 to 1.050. The finishing gravity came in at the higher end of their finishing range of 1.007 to 1.013 at 1.012.

All in all, I had an enjoyable experience through the whole process. But it wasn't the process that I enjoyed the most, it was the finished product.

I'll post the ingredients and instructions below, so if you'd like to try it out for yourself, just click on the "read more" link below.
